Hey there and thanks for this nice module :)

I'm experiencing a little issue that make it hardly usable though:

Whenever I activate either "Direction Navigator" or "Control Navigator" (or both of them), the links stop working correctly, resulting in every slide linking to the very same link of the first slide. As soon as I disable all navigators the sides link to the correct path again. Looking at the generated markup it's not the actual link around the image thats wrong but rather some css or javascript problem.
Also, even if the navigators show up they don't work at all. Clicking them just doens't provoke any reaction.

Last but not least the "Pause on Hover" functionalty is broken, too, as soon as navigators are activated.

Am I the only one to have those issues and thus maybe experiencing some kind of incompatibility with my theme and/or other modules or is it an issue of Views Nivo Slider itself?

Thanks in advance,
klickreflex

Hi klickreflex,

Are you using the 6.x-2.0-alpha1 version of jQuery Update?

I found that I had similar problems to you when I was using jQuery Update 6.x-1.1 - you definitely need to use the Alpha version (as mentioned in the Dependencies section on the Views Nivo Slider main page).

Cheers,
Darren (mcdazz).

I have the exact same issue to report. To paraphrase the bug as it shows on my site:

clicking on any image in the nivo slider will always take me to the link provided in the first image.
link functionality is only restored when:
Direction Navigator is NO
Direction Navigator hide is NO
Control Navigator is NO
Control Navigator thumbnail is YES
Pause on Hover is YES

With these settings, pause on hover works and links work, but the little dots do not show (I presume that is what the thumbnail navigator is called)

If any of the first 3 are set to yes, in any combo, the links and pause on hover do not work.

Here are some additional details that may be handy:
1) my current theme is sky,
2) imagecache is giving me grief about not making thumbnails whenever I create a new node for the nivo slider.
3) I'm using the dev version of the slider
4) I'm using the jquery 2alpha that is required.

I'm trying to resolve the imagecache issue, but since this has been reported by someone else, I don't think they are related.

I will post any other data you need. Thanks in advance for the help

Hello thinkpadius,

Sorry for the long delay for response...

Ok, try select Yes at Control Navigator. Maybe i will change it to improve the usability... one select box for Control Navigator with three values (None, Basic, Thumbnail). I guess doing it, i will prevent this mistake.

What do you think?

About image overlap, check if the images has same dimensions... if no, this could be the problem.

same Issue here.
it's just works fine when i remove the navigators and thumbs.
if i don't remove it the slider show all images with the first link :(

pedrofaria’s picture

i was talking with thiagomoraesp and i he told that the HTML is correctly. So the bug is on nivo slider lib...

i will upgrade the lib soon and maybe this bug could be fixed...

Just updated to version 2 and things are definitely improved. Thanks for the work on this.

So direction navigator works for me, and having it hidden/unhidden won't give me problems.

I still have issues with the control navigator - it won't screw up links now, but it just won't show up at all. I use the slider as a block on the front page to link to new articles (image attached) and it would be great if small thumbnails or the little dots showed at the bottom.

Do thumbnails need to be a certain size before they show? presumably they ought to show at the bottom of the slider, not the right or left, correct?

Thanks for your help.

my site is http://thinkpadius.com if you want to see it live.

Hello thinkpadius,

Thanks for your words ;)

If you enable your control navigador, you can use dots or thumbs as control navigator depending of your choice.

Thumbs or dots will be showed below your slider by default... but you can add your position with css.

If you want thumbs as control nav, you can choose another CCK field as thumb or just a imagecache preset for it.

Enjoy,

Hi Pedrofaria,

Sadly, when I enable any control navigator option NOTHING happens.

I've tried changing my thumbnail settings in the imagecache and for the views presets, that did not work.

I am using sky as my theme with no modifications could that conflict? Is it possible that using the slider in a block could result in the buttons or thumbs not appearing? I attached a document showing the settings I'm talking about.

Thanks for your work on this,
Thinkpadius

I just answered my own question!

The reason why thumbs, dots or any control navigator doesn't show (for me) is because I have put it in block form.

The block form cuts off those features, which are visible in when viewing the slider as a page.

Now the question becomes, how do I make the page view of slider appear at the top of the frontpage of my site?

UPDATE: I've attempted to get the thumbs or dots to work when in a block, but they don't work.

They do work when you view the slider as a page, which defeats the purpose of making it part of your front page. So I installed panels, and made my front page a panel instead with the nivo slider part of the top. Sadly it did not work out. Maybe I'm doing something wrong along the way, but any help would be appreciated.

Check your CSS... maybe it is causing it...

I'm having the same problem thinkpadius was having, only I just can't get the Control Navigator to appear at all. All I want are those little bullets, which I'm assuming is what "Basic" means. I've tried the other configurations, including the thumbnails, as well, but I just cannot get the Control Navigator to appear.

My configuration is:
Style: Default
Direction Navigator: Yes
Direction Navigator: Yes
Control Navigator: Basic
Keyboard Navigator: No
Pause on Hover: Yes
Manual Advance: No

Again, I've tried other configurations. And, I guess I should specify that I'm not using any links any where, the captions are showing up fine, and my Direction Navigator IS working fine. And, upon inspecting the page my Slider is being displayed on, I see nothing in the source code pertaining to the Control Navigator. Additionally, I am trying to make this display as a block like thinkpadius, but I also tested it trying to display the Slider as a page, and I couldn't get the Control Navigator to display then either. =/

steventhewilson’s picture

Nevermind. I then realized I was not using the alpha version of the jQuery Update. >_< I guess I had downloaded the stable version by force of habit. And, awesome module by the way!

thinkpadius’s picture

Okay I think I've solved the problem, (this is just a theory so far, haven't tested it yet)

I need to go into the css of the sky theme and enlarge the spacing around a block. that will probably reveal the dots that were there the whole time...

we'll see.

Did you ever get the link issue resolved? I've been fighting it for a few days and the other slides always keep the link of the first slide. I've tried every configuration on this post. I need to bullets and links to work. Anyone have any tips???

Anonymous’s picture

I've tried everything on this post as well. Using Views Nivo Slider 6.x-2.0(also tried Views Nivo Slider 6.x-2.x-dev) + jQuery Update 6.x-2.0-alpha1. Having the same problem above.

If one of below options are "YES" it returns a javascript error plus navigation and links doesnt work properly.
(Error: $(".nivo-controlNav a", slider).live is not a function
Source File: http://localhost/sites/all/modules/views_nivo_slider/js/jquery.nivo.slid...
Line: 16)

Direction Navigator
Control Navigator

Anyone have solution for this ?

$(".nivo-controlNav a", slider).live

This error only happens if you don't use the correct version of jquery update module.

Anonymous’s picture

hmm I was using jQuery Update 6.x-2.0-alpha1. but for whatever the reason it wasnt replacing the core jquery with newer one. so basically its about jquery update module. I replaced the jquery.js in misc directory with a newer version. now it works fine.
