After an email conversation with an end user I asked that maybe he could describe in what way he was using teh module so that I may be able to add in some additional functionality later on. I decided to make it into a "feature request" issue so that I don't loose it. Below were his comments

I am using the Category module. It adds a lot of important features that aren't available in taxonomy. The container and category used in the module are similar to vocabulary and term. As an example, I have set up the following containers and they are set to hidden so that they don't show up in the menu or breadcrumbs: Section, Category, Type, Manufacturer, Model, Make. Within each of these containers, there are multiple categories.
To go back to the example, let's say somebody has navigated to Computers > Systems > Laptops > Dell > Inspiron > E1705. They then want to post either a story or a janode. For example, the title of the janode post could be "Will my E1705 burst into flames?" and then they provide a link to an online article as a reference: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32550. It would be so much simpler if they could just click "Add a story with link" in the E1705 category that they have navigated to and have it automatically posted to that category.
Have you used the userreview module? It seems that many of the voting type modules allow this kind of posting that is automatically categorized. Since the category type in Category module creates nodes, it is simple to set userreview to be active on the category node type. This is not ideal in my situation, since the containers Section, Category, Type, Manufacturer, Model, also contain categories that then have userreview active. I don't want users to have the ability to post reviews under the categories in those containers, but it is okay for now. I think it would take something in the Category module to specify which individual category nodes can receive a janode or userreview post. I don't think that will happen so no biggie. However, just to be able to activate the janode module so that it is available in nodes of type category would be extremely useful.
Let me know if that is detailed enough.
Thanks, Sean
