8) Reinstalling Guest Additions, or My Mouse is Stuck!
This is outdated by Quickstart 0.9
NOTE: After changes to the virtual linux kernel, this problem seems to have gone away. You may still need to do this when upgrading versions of Virtualbox, but no longer when upgrading the linux kernal.
If the mouse cursor gets "stuck" in the Quickstart window, press the right control key to release it. This can be "fixed" by reinstalling Virtualbox's Guest Additions.
Whenever the Ubuntu "kernel" is updated (that's the Linux part), Virtualbox's "Guest Additions" must be reinstalled. Kernel updates are automatic security updates, and the power button will turn red after a kernel update.
To fix this:
1) Restart Quickstart.
2) In the Quickstart window:
- Devices -> Install Guest Additions...
- Places -> VBOXADDITIONS...
- Select "autostart", or doubleclick autorun.sh -> Run.
- A window will open and do some stuff. Press enter when it's done to close the window.
3) Once the install window is complete
- Right-click the CD on the desktop and Eject.
- Press right-ctrl to get the mouse out.
- Devices -> CD/DVD -> Unmount.
- Restart Quickstart.
