I have 4.5 version.

I have to say, getting this installed, it has the single most confusing directions I`ve ever seen. I followed them best as I could but Drupal isn`t working. I get a white page with the message "unable to select database". So what happened? What do I need to do?

I ask that the technical terms are kept to a minimum, I`m an html-minded person.

Now I just get a blank page.

Hi.

Drupal 4.5 is longer supported for security patches, has far fewer features, and is much more difficult to install and upgrade than 4.7. The 4.7 instructions are also much more clear.

Drupal 5.0, which will be ready sometime this fall/winter, will be even easier to install. From what i understand, you won't need to install a database separately, it will do it for you through a web browser.

I got 4.5 because my server does not have php 5, it has php 4. So that`s why I have 4.5.

4.7.3 works just fine on Mphp4.3.3. Not sure where you got the idea that it didn't. You really don't want to use Drupal 4.5. It will only frustrate you more in the long run.

Well, when I was reading over everything to see what file I`m supposed to grab, there was a page that said that the versions over 4.5 would not work for lower than php5.

So then it doesn`t really matter?
