Hi everyone!
I made the mistake of having my website hosted on GoDaddy, I registered my site through them and I thought I'd have them host it while I'm in the Drupal development phase. The thing is, the performance of the basic $5/month is awful, even for a single developer. It takes about 10 seconds to access anything with Drupal.
Is there such thing as Drupal friendly hosts? Sites optimized for running Drupal? Maybe a one click install of Drupal too (which Godaddy does support)?
I trust that you'll give me the best and most honest advice about this.
Thanks for the help,
Zade

shared hosting is hit or miss and dependant on a multitude of varibles. If you want a better experience with more control over what you can do to speed up the server, get a VPS or a dedicated box. However, this means you get away from $5 a month hosting. value hosting is great for static pages or very small sites with little activity.
I've been hosting with Xplain
I've been hosting with Xplain (https://www.xplainhosting.com/) for a few months now... they were the only Drupal-specific hosts I could find in my (NZ) timezone. One-click install (either just Drupal core, or Drupal + common modules), optional auto-updates for core (or common modules if enabled), and a staging site clone of your live site to test upgrades/changes before migrating them across. Runs on Amazon's Web Services cloud. Can manage via SVN, SSH, or FTP. The web admin interface is a bit different (read: less sophisticated as it only deals with your Drupal install - no other server tasks like email accounts, etc) than running Plesk or cPanel on a VPS, so your domain administration would need to be done elsewhere (you need to make DNS A RECORDs to point to Xplain's servers).
That all said, I've had great performance from them, and would highly recommend.
Hostgator
Hostgator works for me.

Found an interesting site
Thanks for all your replies and input.
During my search I found an answer to my question so I thought I'd share it with everyone. I found this site:
drupalhosting.net/
And they list a small number of hosts that optimize their services for Drupal sites. Check it out and let me know what you think.

edited by silverwing - removed linkoh come on...
It's one of those lists where all the hosts are linked through affiliate links. May be owned by Siteground.
No one with an ounce of common sense should ever trust those sites. Ever.
~silverwing - and I removed the link part of your post

I didn't buy the ranking there but I was so happy to see a list of hosts who claim to give Drupal users special service. I really have no idea if there is really anything special about their Drupal service which is why I asked.
SiteGround
I just wanted to mention that I did a little search on these people here in this site and found some horror stories. Seems like deception is part of their business and it is illustrated in that little trick you discovered of their affiliate site rating them No.1.
I have used Hostgator to host
I have used Hostgator to host Drupal sites for many years and run several accounts with them, ranging from basic shared hosting to VPS. Their technology is mostly on point, the downtime is better than advertised, and the support is alright (most hosts have terrible support).
A few years ago I ran an unoptimized Drupal site with about a million visits per month off of their cheapest shared account. It did started chocking at around 1 million/month, but some advanced caching would have easily allowed a ten-fold performance. At the time, instead of improving caching the site was moved to a larger host account.
For dedicated hosting I would recommend Singlehop hands down. I've been to their server farm and everything with those guys seems to be exactly on point. For their level of service and value, their prices are very hard to beat.
