I'm fine-tuning a drupal install, 4.4.1, and I'm getting confused about moderation. On an add node page, if I uncheck all options, including moderation, I submit the node, then go to admin > node, the node in question appears after filtering nodes by "nodes waiting for approval." Then, if I submit a node by checking only the moderation option, the node is in the approval queue all the same. What is this moderation thing after all? Also, how about moderation as in a node being "in moderation queue" on the one hand, and the queue module, which is described as "Enables content to be moderated by the community" on the other? I need the terminology cleared up, please.
thanks.

ok, since no one is jumping on this, I will medidate some more on this...
my queue module is turned OFF. that would enable those with the right permission to give plus or minus points to nodes, and publish them on / remove them from the front page. is that right?
I don't need this. I need the following: content is written by a group of writers, unpublished by default (node options set to unpublished, not on front page). A couple of admins may look at them and submit them to either the front page (if they think the node should go there) or simply to the site. All these can be done from the admin > node page, where they can filter nodes that wait for approval, and approve them, turn them down, put them on front page, etc.)
So, if all the above is correct, the question is, on the admin > node > settings page, the checkbox about moderation makes sense only if the queue module is turned ON. Is that right?
did you search the mailing list?
you might find an answer there. maybe this (or elsewhere in this thread)?
thanks
that's good to know... I didn't know how to access the list. I'll go and have a look at it.
refined question :)
ok, based on what I've managed to read on the devel list, the "in moderation queue" checkbox is there for all modules that use moderation, not just the queue module. So, if the queue module is turned off, the moderation checkbox might still be useful. So here's my question: based on what I need (simple approval queue on admin/node: publish, publish on front page, take down, etc.), what's the best setting to give for a certain node type on the node settings page? Apart from no checkbox in publish and in front page, should the moderation checkbox be ticked, just in case? Or could it possibly do any harm (i.e. complicate the approval task) in the future?
I would like to know how as well...
I'm in a similar situation.
I need the following: content is written by authenticated users, unpublished by default (node options set to unpublished, not on front page). Authenticated users will look at them and vote on them. After they reach a threshhold it will be promoted to either the front page (if they think the node should go there) or simply to the site (under it's taxonomy term).
I've searched this site for a while now and I cannot find how to do this.
What I have found is that you
What I have found is that you can do what you describe using the queue module and content settings. The down side is that your administers' content will also default to the moderation queue unless they uncheck the box every time.
What I'd like to do is have the Admins' content bypass the queue, but have the authenticated users' content show up in the submission queue (without having to uncheck the box every time on the create content screen). This should really be done on the user/permissions level.

did you figure out if Drupal does this?
Hi Judah,
I know you posted this like over a year ago, but I'm currently looking for a CMS solution and drupal seems to have everything I need except for the chain of approval process.
Can you do this with Drupal?
Thank you!

I need exactly what you need!
I notice you posted this over a year ago. Did you figure out how to enable this feature? I'm trying to decide which CMS to use. Drupal seems to have everything I need except what you wrote. Please let me know if Drupal has a chain of approval feature.
Thank you!!

Workflow clarification request
Hi
I just installed Drupal for a community website, and I'm not sure about the configuration for my intended workflow. I want that registered users can post stories and weblog entries, so the latter get published in their weblogs without any further actions, but at the same time they can also choose to submit each entry for promotion to the site front page. However, I still don't want to have the whole 'peer moderation', but just one or more editors who decide about the promotion (ideally, after being notified about one or more waiting submissions). Submitted stories must also follow this process.
Can anyone help with this?
Thank you and best regards
