How to get the image upload to work?

Hi,

I've installed Whizzywig but when I try to upload an image and click on the image tool, then on "insert" in the dialogue box , (or what ever I should call it) the box just closes without any action. The other functions work without a problem. The module says it doesn't need any other dependencies.

My Drupal installation is up to date and I have enabled the core "upload" module (I don't know if that is necessary).

I really don't understand why a simple thing like image upload should take days to get to work on Drupal in general. I tried to take the WYSIWYG / whizzywig / WYSIWYG image upload route but couldn't get that Whizziwyg editor to be more than 1/4 of the width of the editing box and I get errors whenever trying to install the WYSIWYG image upload. On another site I've got TinytinyMCE - same problem with the simple image upload. It feels about old fashioned having to upload images by FTP and link them by hand....

Please please help anyone! I just want simple images in my posts!
