After installing and using the default way to upload user images on the profile, none of the images will actually show. In my browser, I'm only seeing the Broken Image icon in all the locations where that user image would appear.

I've checked permissions, both in drupal and on the file and the directory holding it, and all permissions look fine. I have the same problem with images uploaded using the Image module. It shows the placeholder, but no image.

I'm hoping you folks can provide some ideas I might not have tried. Thanks!

and I think I figured it out. The sites/default/files folder had no permissions at all set for group or world. Changing them to Read and Execute made it work.
