It would be very handy to have a registration box next to the ok and cancel buttons on the logintoboggan form.

where are there ok and cancel buttons? 'Log in' is the only button on a login form...

also, not accepting features for 6.x anymore, moving to 7.x.

sorry I had a buggy logintoboggan configuration. Removed module and themed the form. Everything working as desired.
