I'm asking Steven about this since this is an unmodified file from the jQuery project.

I think there needs to be some location that you can find the jquery version number.

If that is not in the jquery file itself, there needs to be a location in the admin pages where you can find it.

+1 for the patch at http://drupal.org/node/82831. I'd still add a CVS $Id$, if only for matters of consistency. Also, it might happen in the future that Drupal-specific customizations are made, so the $Id$ could become imporant to distinguish different versions.

It doesn't really hurt to have a CVS Id version number and it can prove useful in case a security issue comes up. I'm all for adding it.
