invalid XML error when importing Wordpress blog

I have the similar issue. Pls help..

I experienced the same in connection with errors for atom links. After removing the atom links in the XML file these error messages went away, so I just assumed they were connected.

I've never encountered this UTF-8 encoding error. Could you please attach the wordpress export file in question, so I can look at it?

Same problem here with (exported xml file from WP latest version).

I'm also having this issue with Wordpress Import 6.x-2.1 and 6.x-2.x-dev and Wordpress 3.0 and 3.0.1. I've attached the xml file I've been trying to import (renamed as a txt so it could be attached here).

This is the error I get.

The attached file was made unreadable as it contains private data (3rd party email addresses). GK

I didn't realize this was giving me a line number from my xml file.

On line 1054 of my xml file, I noticed some weird characters "ÿþ". I deleted those and now it works fine.

is this issue is fixed for real? because recently i get the same problem and still no solution to it:

any idea how solve this problem?

You need to delete lines 46 and 47 of your Wordpress XML file. All this is explained in the README!

Not everybody has the same line #'s that need to be removed. Saying lines 46 & 47 is specific to your wordpress file. Remove the atom lines and it will work fine.

I was able to export from WordPress but received the same "invalid XML file" complaint when attempting ti import into Drupal 6X.
