I am running 4.7 and want to send email to a group of people. (They are all registered users of my Drupal website.) I have found several modules that seem to do mail:
Mail
Mailing List Manager
Mailman Mailing List Management Wrapper
Mass Mailer (phpList)
Organic groups list manager
Can anyone recommend which one would be best for my purposes?
Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
It's tough to guess an answer without knowing your purposes, Andrew, especially if you have already gone through the documentation for the modules you mentioned.
by the way, have you looked at the advanced user module or the ">other mail modules?
...seeing that nobody else has answered..as a tip, before implementing any of the modules, check with your host and ensure you are allowed to send mass emails. Many don't, these days, so it's worth checking your contract/agreement to make sure you don't end up with a big penalty bill or your site being pulled. In Europe, there are stiffer penalties coming in over mass emailing, so many hosts who are paranoid about getting whipped are simply blocking mass emails - regardless if they are genuine, not spam and are from opt-in lists.
If you have a sticky host, who won't bend or waiver, it maybe worth looking at desktop tools, such as gammedyne mailer which can connect to your database and sends from your desktop. I've been told that emails sent from the desktop are more likely to get through than those sent from a server (I'm not an expert in mass mailing so I can't back that up, even though it sorta makes sense).
A year ago, one such client preferred to use a desktop mailer so I setup a user export feature for him where he could click on a button and export all the names + email addresses for a specific group of users or from a geographic area etc (profile fields).
If your host is cool with you sending mass emails, for a small-to-medium site, with less than a few thousand users, I would tend to suggest the simple news module.
Hope that helps

Mass Email Integration with Civicrm - in 4.7?
I'm researching this too. I'm running civicrm 1.5 on Drupal 4.7.4 with PHP4 on my server.
All I really want to do at this point is to be able to send emails to 5-100 civicrm contacts - using merge fields for personalized salutation lines.
Civimail is a bit over my head. More importantly, it seems to require PHP5 - which would break some legacy sites my running on the same server.
The smtp mail features in civicrm are pretty cool, if you're not sending too many messages at a time.
I wish there was an easy way to integrate civicrm with phplists in 4.7.
