As Pretty as You Make It
Drupal has the potential to look as pretty as you make it. Check out the many sites that use Drupal.
After looking at the two sites, I think Drupal, as a CMS, already looks better than those two. If you are debating PHP v. ASP.NET then it's a whole 'nother can of worms.
Many sites that use Drupal
It would be interesting if the sites that Drupal page included the theme chosen. A much more efficient way than clicking on each site to see yet another theme you have already seen. I gather that the module that pings Drupal to list the site could include other variables including Who's online and Taxonomy. As this list grows and grows it would be nice to have some searchable/list by parameters.
looks=theme
and if you are talking about drupal's ability to look like those sites in terms of theme layout and CSS, note that dasBlog is based on a bryan bell theme. bell does manila and radio themes. someone would just have to port them to drupal. for example, i previously ported his bookworm theme to drupal (although, i am not updating it for 4.4x). someone could do the same for dasBlog's look.
ported a bryan bell theme
Well, I was glancing at Bryan Bell's Manila themes again because of this post and decided to port CandidBlue to xtemplate. more info here.
