Hello,
I just installed drupal on my local server, under a subdirectory (http://dump/drupal):
- Apache2
- PHP 5.2.0RC2
- MySQL 5
And for some reason, after creating the initial account I can't stay logged in, I get dumped at an "Access Denied" page, and I get logged out...
I've tried the following:
- Clearing all cookies
- Clearing the sessions table
- Commenting out lines 973-5 of user.module
If anyone has any idea what could be causing this on a fresh install... :(

So a day and a half later,

Why don't you re-install to
Why don't you re-install to see if the same problem occurs.
Since it's a fresh install then you won't lose anything.
I've done so repeatedly,
I've done so repeatedly, still no luck :(
Same thing can't stay logged in.
New install today..
anxious to see answer..
btw: enabling cookies did not work
I'm more than a bit put off
I'm more than a bit put off that three weeks later, there still isn't a solution...
EDIT: I just tried it today, and it works, funny... however this should still be considered a major bug.
Same problem with me
I'm having the same problem with Apache 2.2, php 5.2.0, MySQL 5.0, Drupal 4.7.3

Kevin.
Maybe you're experiencing
Maybe you're experiencing this issue: http://drupal.org/node/92802 .
Use mysqli or try the patch.
Problem NOT Drupal !!!
I Bet you anything that it is your OS/Browser xp/vista user. ;)
I have had the same problem on my MS/IE7 laptop with the login bumping me off. However, ON my other workstation using Firefox or IE6 I don't have a problem with getting the boot from my drupal (5.1) site.
In frustration I search and found this thread. Guess what When I tried to log in to Drupal.org to reply to this thread using my laptop IE7, NO GO. I wanted to respond to say I was pretty sure that this is issue is a IE7 problem as the laptop w/IE7 is the only workstation I have this problem with.
This is confirmed by the fact that once I closed IE7 and opened Firefox I was able to login to to respond to this thread and stay logged in to my Drupal site.
BTW: over 2 hrs now and have not been bumped by my Drupal site.
Maybe some one more energetic than I will be willing to dive into the IE7 issue and Drupal login. For me I am just going to make sure an keep using a superior browser
