I am trying to get a verification of my website with google web master tools and need help.

I am not a coder but just a guy trying to run a website with Drupal.
I have tried the meta tag and the html methods of verification without success.

When I try to add the meta tag to the page.tpl, it just disappears and when I try to upload the html verification, the website goes down.

There simply must be a way to do this.
