Would love some recommendations on good Drupal recruiting firms. Want people who are ethical and really care about helping small companies.

Thank you,
Stephanie

Thanks, I was looking for some unbiased comments from clients and job hunters but checked your site out anyway. It's a nice site but I am a bit confused. When I go to your team page everyone who works for you is a "drupal developer" except for maybe one marketing person and a project manager. Doesn't look like recruiting is your main focus at all...if I sent my resume to you it doesn't look like it would be a priority, when you don't have any actual recruiting staff on the team. Wondering how you can help people with staffing if you are busy competing for potentially the same clients as your recruiting customers. Seems like it should be one or the other to me. Just my 2 cents.

...that plus the links on the front page are broken (e.g. http://www.drupalconnect.com/staffing). How comes a company with so many drupalers flying arround doesn't have a properly working website.

On the other hand Stephanie...how can you recruit able drupalers if you don't have an inhouse drupal genie ?

Well, sure, but those people aren't necessarily qualified to do job placement too...and the business model seems a bit odd to me. Basically, they would be recruiting for their competitors. If I had a large Drupal consulting firm I certainly wouldn't be going to my competitor and asking them to get me the best candidates...maybe if I were a really trusting person, but I've seen enough to know that this sort of arrangement would be rife for abuse. I.e., the salesperson/recruiter who uses the knowledge of the company they are recruiting for to go in and try to underbid their client and steal business. Not saying that's the intent of the founder, but you'd have to have a very clear delineation of staff to not have those sorts of problems come up.

I guess it would be a question of which commission is higher - the commission to place the candidate, or the commission to sell the large web consulting job? A greedy salesperson is just going to go for the money most likely.

Heck, maybe there isn't any sinister goings-on, but you might find out that your firm is competing for the same Drupal business, both bidding on the same, big project...and so would you feel comfortable going to your competing bidder to bring you the staff you need for the job?

Now, if it were a company that is not in the business of doing Drupal consulting jobs, but is say, a telecomm company that just needs an in-house Drupal person for their website, then I don't see this as being so problematic. But if I were a Drupal consulting firm, I would not be going to someone who is in my area of business to find my best candidates. I'd want someone who had my best interests in mind and not someone who was not competing with me for the same business.

I'm sure there are plenty of non-Drupal companies that would needs some staffing services so maybe they are getting plenty of business that way. If so, more power to them.

Just my 2 cents. :-)

I have a buddy who is a recruiter for a staffing firm in Dallas. Mid-level Drupal work (basically a themer who knows more CSS than PHP), can fetch around $30/hr. But the staffing firm charges the firm needing you to code 50-70% premium on top of what they pay you. Oh, but the staffing firm will pay your taxes for you (eg make you fill out a W-2 and etc). If you have your own contacts you can make >$50/hr. by going direct and filing your own taxes.

Your response slipped in as I was posting my last response...I still think your business model is a bit odd. You can read above. No offense.

Also hoping to hear from other people as well. Thanks.

I guess this old adage escapes you. The bottom line is that this "odd" model works. Our clients enjoy and value our services. We are contractually obligated never to recruit from our clients. So when it comes down to it, your opinion of our "odd" model is baseless. If I were you I'd spend less time knocking on hard working people and more time devoloping your talents so you can find employment.

I'm not particularly interested in Fortune 100 companies...not into big corporations or corporate-anything so much.

if you're in need of Drupal work and regard yourself as a quality developer, my company does have many interesting projects that we'd be more than happy to discuss with you.
