I set up roles to view the downloads, but it doesn't require any email confirmation or anything.

one time installed you can administer it from here /admin/content/email_download

it also create a downloads page: /downloads
here in attachment, you cna find 2 sample user interfaces.

I've now added a simple README file to the codebase with very basic instructions on configuring and uploading files.
