Why can't this thriving Drupal community come up with a simple basic image insertion plug-in, that WordPress provides "out of the box" and the video insertion that VideoPress provides as well with minimum installation issues ? If a module like that existed, more people would be using Drupal CMS instead of a glorified blogging software from Wordpress.
I tried IMCE, it confuses the hell out of "regular" user.
I tried image picker and it is closer to a simple inline image insertion and management then any other plug in, but still no cigar.
I tried CCK based video and image fields. They are too limited on their own and unable to segregate/manage user content.
I tried installing Flashvideo and Blue droplet video modules and both gave me a headache.
Kaltura has a great server back end, but if you want o use Kaltura's image and video assets inline with your text post, you are SOL.
Well, thats my rant of the day. Any constructive replies and suggestions are welcome.

A new approach for inline images
Check this quick video out... its only for images and its only for uploading images to a node. EG your user wont get a list of images they have already uploaded.

IMHO, that is the most intuitive way to do inline images...if, you do not need an asset type of system for your users.

Its not done yet but it looks very promising.
EXACTLY my words
Thank you rnexussix. EXACTLY my words. I've been trying out the exact same solutions as you and yet i haven't find any decent solution to this major issue. I know programmers say inline imagery is the devil, but if you want to build a content-rich website with articles featuring both image and video material you need some kind of solution for this problem.
We are developing a community for designers and all that is slowing down our release is the lack of a solution for inline imagery.
Today i came across Mid Century Modernist - a blog about mid century design.
Look how beautiful text and image is layouted in harmony. This is impossible to archive in Drupal, only possible in - guess what - Wordpress!

That is indeed a very attractive site, but no, there is nothing there that is impossible to do with drupal. Not even remotely. I've seen more than a few sites like that, but the only link i have handy is a recent one: http://www.dosta.net.
However, having said that, drupal is far more flexible than wordpress and the price of that flexibility and power is some additional complexity. The site you link can be done with drupal but it will take some skill with the theming system (though not much, from what I saw). But the ease of theming is improving with every release-- d7 promises to be the best yet.
WorldFallz, I think you are
WorldFallz,
I think you are missing the point. It's not that it is impossible to create beautiful content with Drupal. It's just that it is unnecessary complex to create rich content that has inline images and video (self hosted).
I agree that Drupal is much more flexible then WP and if it had the same ease of content creation (for the average internet user) as WordPress, WordPress would have no reason to exist. People just want to type some text,upload/ insert a picture inline , then type some more text and upload / insert a video inline, then "wash and repeat".
I'm not talking about complex movie / image galleris here (plenty of them for Drupal). Simple, inline with text media insertion with a few presets, is all most of the content creators need. Weird that none of the module writers gets this concept.
you're right
i'm using drupal 7, wysiwyg and insert module.
it is great for image only inline editing ... :)
but not yet ready to work with other media. :(oups ...
you can do image and video inline editing with drupal 7 + wysiwyg + media + ckeditor (and its 'media browser' button)
