Using the hypothetical situation where multiple sellers are selling T-shirts. t-shirts have some may common attributes, but different sellers may want to add additional ones. Currently this requires the super admin to create the attributes, and each seller chooses from the master list. In addition there is only one price field per attribute. If one seller wants to charge +2.00 for extra large, and another seller wants to charge +1.00 for an extra large, there is currently no way to implement this.

Turgrid commentedThis is definitely a feature that has been requested many times. If I recall, the main issue why it was never pursued to much length in the past was because there is no easy way to split up the attribute system on a seller basis due to the ubercart core attribute data structure. To implement it as one would want to see it would require substantial hacking to core or an all new attribute module. Of course, a compromise could be made somewhere in the middle by exposing some interface to sellers, or the marketplace attribute system could be a replacement for the core attribute system. Contributions are welcome.
