FilterMusic.net is a directory of online radio stations streaming in high quality without commercials.

After several HTML versions we decided to use Drupal as the main platform for the Filtermusic.net radio directory. Among others the site features ajax calls and heavy Jquery implementation; we wanted to make the website as fast as possible.

  • As far as performance is concerned we used the Boost module
  • Almost everything is done with the Views module
  • Radio stations can be listened to via the Yahoo Media Player
  • Background pictures are resized with the jQuery Backstretch

Currently the site is viewed by 140,000 unique visitors per month.

Any feedback would be appreciated and I'd like to say a big thank you to all the Drupal community for the dozens of modules and patches that made Filtermusic.net possible.

Thanks for your time guys..

Can you mention how you added the Yahoo Media Player? Just wanted to see whether it could all be done with modules, or required some hacking.

Sorry for my late reply ;)

Nothing special here: you take the radio server url (for example http://38.96.148.77:6680) and make this look like http://38.96.148.77:6680/;foo.mp3. So the final HTML code should look like this:

<a class="htrack" type="audio/mpeg" href="http://38.96.148.77:6680/;foo.mp3">Listen now</a>

Yahoo media player can play this stream as if it was an MP3 track.

Let me know should you want anything else.

Many thanks for that. I also found a way to convert the URL of an MP3 file into the required link using a CCK field, details here for anyone else that is interested.

on sites running Drupal 6, do NOT let users have "delete questions" permission - if you do, then all comments will be lost and screwy! let 'em edit, but deleting is dangerous in a Q&A style site! on sites running Drupal 5, you only have create, edit and edit own permissions, so be sure to only allow the "create questions" permission.

go to admin/site building/menus and select "navigation" - you'll see a section called "create content" and in there you can edit what the "ask a question" text will look like for your users
