If you have pictures of different size, Safari will remember the size of the first picture and resize all consecutive pictures to fit in that frame – of course without respecting the correct ratio.

We had a similar problem with the 5.x version. Try fixing both the height and the width for your images and see if that works.

This is a Safari bug (cf. http://drupal.org/node/116105). The current versions don't have this anymore and the old versions aren't really used widely anymore.
