I know this has been asked a lot and I realize it varies from location to company to person... ext. I'm just wondering if this sounds reasonable,

Downtown LOS ANGELES, Fulltime
Jr. PHP & Drupal Developer - 50K a year + full benefits

It sounds like a lot to me. Do people really make this much with PHP? I searched Salary index sites and found PHP developers in LA make on Average 80K. Is it me or is that seem way over inflated? I couldn't find stuff on Drupal salaries. I guess I'm confused why companies would pay these high salaries when its so easy to find freelances in the $20/hr range?

I don't mean to offend anyone making good money doing this, I was just curious as I never knew it was this much.

You can also find freelancers that work for 4$ an hour. That doesn't mean anything.

LA has a pretty high cost of living. I don't live there but that doesn't sound like much to me. That's just a tad more than I was making in the midwest 6 years ago for programming.

Drupal freelancers can make $100+ an hour. Drupal shops even more than that.

I've never lived in LA, and at my current job I don't make that much.... that being said, I believe that the offered pay is borderline acceptable and you may find that experienced php/drupal developers may shy away from that offer. Then again, as I said, I don't get paid that much so it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Personally I always give 100% of my abilities no matter what the agreed upon pay is, however, the lower the amount, the more I am looking forward to bigger and greater things.

50-80k for downtown Los Angeles isn't all that much due to cost of living. My last programming job in the area was roughly 120k a year.
