This question should be easy.

I need to arrange content in some categories. For example - 'Cats', 'Dogs' and 'Birds'.
Also I need them to appear in menu @front page. I know how to add items on menu but i dont know how to link them to right content.

Should I make types. And then?
Or should I use categories? And then how to link to menu list?

Any tips appreciated!

There is a module called taxonomy_menu. I don't know how current it is. You can also manually link to the terms like www.example.com/taxonomy/term/5. There's also the categories module that I believe puts things in the menu, but I'm not positive.
