Hi All,

I have a little issue with agruments and taxonomy.

I would like that the page view generates the url based on the parent and child term.

Ex:

- Term 1
-- Term 2
-- Term 3

-Term 4
- Term 5
- Term 6

Argument 1 is Taxonomy term id with depth.
Settings--> Validator: Taxonomy term, argument type: argument name or synonym, depth 0

Argument 2 is Taxonomy term id with depth.
Settings--> Validator: Taxonomy term, argument type: argument name or synonym, depth 1

the url: pageview/%/%

If I write in the url bar: /pageview/term1/term3 I should have all the nodes realted to "Term 3" and if I write /pageview/term1/all I should have all the nodes related to the child terms. But this is not happening. What I'm doing wrong.

Thank you fot your support.

You posted your issues 8 hours ago. If you are eally sure your issue is more important than the other issues,
then you should help in the issue queue http://drupal.org/project/issues/views

Just more than 1000 issues.

Hi Dereine,

I'm very patient, and it's not the first issue I've submitted on drupal. It's a little bit frustrating if you search for documentation and you can't find it :-)

I think this is a very common scenario and there is lack of information about this topic. There are a lot threads open on the Drupal forum where anyone hasn't given response.

My Conclusions:

- or there is no documentation about this
- or if there is info it's not explained clear enough (about a "light, medium, advanced" use of arguments)
- or if there is info and it's well explained it's very hard to find
- or the taxonomy id with depth is not working properly (I think I can exclude this, I think)
- or this it's not possible to do this with views (and I think I can exclude this too)

Dereine one other thing: do you think documentation is less important than coding? More documentation there is, less question of this kind will be submitted.

thnx
mileZ

@milez

It's interesting, my only point was that you shouldn't expect that issues are solved immediately.

As you said you didn't managed to do it.
Views cannot explain every use case in the documentation, but you combine existing documentation for arguments and taxonomy.

Before i forget it !!please review my patches!! I want to pressure, too.

I post it now how you will be able to do this, if you write the documentation!

Hi dereine,

as you can see I didn't expected that my issue was solved immediately. But I'm still looking for a solution or documentation.

Do you know how I can solve my issue.

Thank you in advance,

mileZ

I have been beating my head against the computer for a while on this too and found a solution.

I have the following Taxonomy.
Jewelry
-Women
--Bracelets
--Necklaces

I used the argument "Taxonomy: Term ID (with depth)", Validator = Taxonomy term, Checked the related Vocabularies, Argument type = Term nam/synonym converted to Term ID, Depth = 3.

Repeat so there are 3 arguments all with "Taxonomy: Term ID (with depth)"

Now if I go to:
storename/jewelry = All Bracelets and All Necklaces show
storename/jewelry/women= All Bracelets and All Necklaces show
storename/jewelry/women/bracelets = All Bracelets show
storename/jewelry/women/necklaces = All Necklaces show

I am starting to play with the module "Taxonomy Menu" to create the store navigation.

Hope the info helps someone.

Hi elegantgowns,

thank you. I'm going yo test it and I'll let you know.

Did it worked with the "Taxonomy Menu"?

Thnx

Did you try elegantgown's solution?
Did it work?

The OP is correct: this is a common issue.

The problem is, it's difficult. Views doesn't do it well. That's why you can't find documentation on it.

@elegantgowns - can you export a view regarding your #8 post? I know I'm close and hoping to achieve the same effects. What version of Drupal & Views are you using?

@merlinofchaos - Is this solvable within one View? It is quite a challenge. However, because it is quite difficult, I would be THRILLED to be able to put up a versioned "resolve" for the sake of contributing back. But I'm still at a bit of a stand still. If you'd be willing to help, I'd absolutely be willing to post an in-depth tutorial (to the best of my understanding).

Hi,
To help out, this is the important part: argument type = Term nam/synonym converted to Term ID. Because of this the term names are converted to term id's and then views can work with it.
So 3 arguments because of 3 slashes in the url.
