Forms API:How do you theme forms to show the text inline with the textbox?

I can't figure this out without hacking Forms API. I want to have the text label to be inline with the username and password. So this:

user name:
 -----------
|              |
 -----------

would be this

               ------------
user name |              |
               ------------
