so they can upload thier photos and it goes into thier own gallary and have a direct url such as www.mysite.com/membergallery/user
i want the link to be automaticly displayed in the users profile

the image module comes with a gallery.
acidfree also comes with ability to make gallery.
gallery2 comes with ability to make galleries.

and last but not least, shamaztazz (or something to that effect) also allows for galleries to be created.

all of these modules can be found in the repository or using the search feature, for member galleries.

which is the BEST for user galleries

maybe kinda like the way myspace has it set up

if not aslong as users have thier own personal gallery
is there a tutorial on how to set all this up?

I am interested to know the answer to this question as well.

What I plan on trying is giving the user permission to upload images through image.module, hide the option to choose/create a gallery, and then I will make a page for each user, displaying the images that they have uploaded. I'm thinking this will be the easiest way, from the user's perspective, because all they have to do is choose a file and add a description.

keep me updated if you find anything that you feel works
ill do the same i desperatly need this

The problem with "best" is its subjective to each person installing a perticular module.
I highly suggest setting up a demo or sandbox, and trying out each module til you find the one you think is "best" for your application.

Over at lullabot there's a great article on how to setup a flickr like view of your users images. It might be slightly different to what you intendet to do, but results in a similar behavior I suppose. Give it a look.

Not all modules mentionned here do the same thing..

I found it very difficult to create structured user galleries with the image module, as users cannot really add their own private photo album. Although you can filter the images with views to create virtual galleries.

Acidfree does personnal albums that are structured and i like the module, but it is not fully integrated with the other tools that use image.module at the moment, so I guess it depend if you want your users to be able to insert photos from their albums in the other content types with img_assist. At this point acidfree won't do it, but I know that for 5.0 it will.

You can of course try the gallery software and the gallery2 module it's a really nice application. But it's not really integrated in drupal... I'm not an expert though so...I think also the best advice I could give is to really think about what functions are vital to your site and then choose accordingly...

hope thishelps a little

thanx for your reply

the most vital options are that i need each user to have thier own personal gallery
they wont insert photos into content , they will just be a link in thier profile that links directly to thier user gallery

once a user registers and a ID number or name is made i want it to automaticly create a gallery.
i dont want users to have to create galleries i just want them to have a single upload feature and all uploaded photos go to mysite.com/gallery/member/# or something like that

hope i made myself clear there

thanx

In that case I think that the image module and integration with views is the way to go, you can have a look at the lullabot tutorial mentionned earlier.

But again, maybe you should try out the other options as well before deciding, it's time to test for you I guess...

;)

I have followed the lullabot article and like how that method works. One problem, however, is that it outputs the images one below the other instead of multiple thumbnails per row.

Does anyone know how to theme views to output these images in rows, say 3 per line?

Thanks!

Hi,

i have a custom module that does albums, see it in action here http://adrenalinehub.com/user/5/images.
Unfortunately i cannot release the module to the community as it was a paid project and it was requested that it is not released for free. If you are interested in buying the module please contact me via my contact form.

cheers
Tom
