is there a way to send a mail to the node author, when a user review is posted?

Thanks for the request. You could try the actions module & workflow modules. Trouble is actions module seems to support sending email to a static email address and not a dynamic value. I suggest permitting such dynamic actions would be a good feature to request of the actions module. Good luck
