Assume I have successfully installed Drupal 6.17 in english.

Later I decide to add several other language packages like german, french, spanish.

Ok, I already downloaded and extracted the language packages into the Drupal base folder on the web server.
But this does not help.

I could not change the GUI menues and language lets say for user "admin" to a different language.
I expected such an option in

Admin->Administer->User management->User settings

but I do not found it.

So how can I switch the language otherwise AFTER installation of Drupal?

First, make sure u enabled the Locale module. Then go to Administer->Site building->Translate interface and click on the Import tab and there upload the .po file
