It would be great to add tabs for each edit page under the path 'views_ui_basic/view_name/display_name/*', with the first being the default.

This way, visiting 'views_ui_basic/view_name/display_name' would display the first editable area, with tabs linking to other editable areas.

Good idea, edit tabs have been added in the 6.x-1.2 release for those pages.
