I have a few simple CCK types, and for some reason I can not get the "Read More" link to show up below the teaser when they are promoted to the front page.

I've fiddled around with /admin/content/node-type/{My CCK Type}/display in many ways, but the Read More link never shows up beneath the teaser. Not for anonymous users or logged in users.

It's been this way for a few Drupal and CCK versions for me, but I've not reported it yet, sorry. I have to admit I was surprised to not get any hits when I searched the issue queue for "missing Read More link."

Is this a feature request? A bug? Something stupid on my end?

I also had a very similar issue...the Read more link only shows for the topmost node on the front page.
