Hello, I'm using ecommerce module to sell an ebook in one of my sites. Many of my potential clients complain about the long checkout process. They have to register a new account, receive an email notification to complete registration, enter payment information, go to "my files" and download.
This is just too much for many users. Specially if you are selling your ebooks to non-geeks.
I don't need users registered at my site for buying the ebook. I just need an easy buying process for everybody. Instant gratification so my users can pay and download their ebook as soon as possible.
I tried the "Customers do not have to create accounts in order to purchase items from this site" from /admin/store/settings but didn't work right. I don't see how a non-registered user could have a "my files" section.
I'd suggest generating a one time link where non-registered users can download their ebook and a three steps process (better if less):
1. Add ebook to cart
2. Enter payment information
3. If approved show a page with an auto-generated link for downloading the ebook (link should also be sent via email)
Once the client downloads the ebook the link should be disabled but there should be the option to re-enable in case the client had any problem downloading.
The 37Signals guys have a great example of the ebook buying process in their Getting Real ebook.
Is anybody working in something like this? Are you interested in talking about it and maybe we could try something together?
I have to review, once again, ecommerce api's but I'm sure we can work something out.
Any ideas?

Hi, I just released the first version of my module for selling ebooks.
It has some of the features I mentioned in my first post. I hope you find it useful.
Cheers!

Simplifying the cart is going to improve in 5.0. Congrats for doing your module though, I had a look and I wish you luck with it.

is there any way using the e-commerce module to have anonymous user download a file product? maybe have the link sent to them in the mail?

Gordon et al,
Is the e-commerce 4.0 going to introduce anonymouse purchasing? Have to say it makes a lot of sense, and Alexis requirements below seems to capture the essence of it.
