I'm in the process of moving my hosting to 1and1... seems that they are somewhat drupal friendly based on posts I've read. I was a little taken back while setting up my databases when I read the following:
The MySQL database may not be used for log evaluation operations, ad clicks, chat systems, banner rotations, or similar applications putting extreme loads on the database under any circumstances.
Seems that there are a few Drupal modules that may fall outside these usage limitations... like the banner module for example. In a worst case scenario, I may have several Drupal sites active and use phpAdsNew to serve ads accross the sites. Is this something I should be worried about? Should I cancel now and move on? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've not had a problem
Hi,
I've been using 1and1 here in the UK for the last two years and have a Business Pro account and a dedicated server. That warning displays on both packages, despite the fact that with the dedicated server the database in hosted locally on the box I'm renting!
In the time I've been with them I've run all sorts of stuff; drupal, joomla, oscommerce and I've used all sorts of features including banner ads and chat and I've never had a problem. At this moment my Business Pro package has the following up and running;
oscommerce x 2 (1 live, 1 development - both with banner ads)
drupal x 3 (1 live, 2 development)
joomla x 2 (both development)
roundcube mail (gets a lot of use)
eventum (regularly accessed by 3 developers)
moodle (development)
x-cart (live)
So... you need to do whatever feels right for you, but my own experience is that you should be ok.

Hello Gonz,
Thanks for the reply. I suspect you have the right approach... it seems very reasonable. I will continue on with my Developer acccount and should my sites become wildly sucessful (extreme usage), then I'll move to a dedicated server.
