Hi,

I'm currently working on porting ip2country on Drupal 7 because my site will migrate soon to Drupal 7 and it requires your ip2country module. I'm interested to be a co-maintainer of ip2country module for D7. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.

Regards,
Roland

Title: ip2country (for D7) co-maintainer » Offering to maintain ip2country
Category: task » support

Hi,

I have completed porting ip2country to Drupal 7 with some improvements (like unobtrusive javascript implementation at admin settings, changed from throbber to progress bar indicator during manual database update, fall back functions for downloading IP/country data from the ftp servers (cURL, file_get_contents, exec('wget')). The attachment is the patch for actual implementation. I’m interested to join force with you to improve your module and be a co-maintainer of your module for Drupal 7. Thank you.

Regards,
Roland

Title: Offering to maintain ip2country » Offering to maintain IP-based Determination of a Visitor's Country

I have sent a message to the current maintainer.

Hello, TR.
I am writing you because arpeggio offered to maintain " IP-based Determination of a Visitor's Country". Please reply on http://drupal.org/node/857358.

Best regards,

Hi kiamlaluno, I would like to ask if somehow the maintainer changed his personal email address and we have no means to contact him, how long will we wait to take action on taking over the abandoned module?

I have actually ported this module to Drupal 7 at least 5 different times, first of which was June of 2009. However, D7 was undergoing so many changes that every month or two I had to port it again to keep up with HEAD. I decided to NOT create a CVS branch for the D7 port until D7 stabilized, because I did not want to spend the effort to keep re-porting to support a moving target. That has changed now that D7 Beta 1 is released (last night).

This is hardly an "abandoned" module. It is stable, and the only real known bug was just posted 4 days ago. Modules which work don't need updates every few days just to be considered active. Applying the criterion that modules which have taken no action on a D7 port are abandoned would mean about 99% of the modules on drupal.org are "abandoned". It would have been a major waste of my time to try to support a D7 port back in July, and it is only now that a beta release of D7 is out that it's reasonable to ask about a port.

I *am* interested in your AHAH work and adding the progress bar, and I will be happy to see about incorporating those into the module after I post my D7 port. That should be in the next couple of weeks, but before D7 final in any case.

TR, welcome back! Glad to hear from you, I thought you've already forgot Drupal :) Its a pleasure to be a help contributing improvements to your module. Will wait for D7 version of this module. If by chance you need a co-maintainer I would be glad to to be at service :)

Dear TR. We welcome you maitaining the project. There was no activity in CVS for more than a year. Where can we download your version of the D6 module? This is getting me on my nerves. I would like to participate and test PostgreSQL/SQL99 compliance, but this module is not maintained.

The development snapshot for Drupal 6 is listed in the project page.
