Hey guys,

Just looking through the modules section - I realized - wouldn't it be a good idea to have a category system for those available? That way, each module could be accessible through sub categories such as Administration (eg: Control panel), Searches, Site add ons (Front Page, Block, Nodes etc), API modules (Amazon, Google Maps, et al), and others?

The list of modules to scroll through would be reduced, and navigation/information on them is better too.

Cheers
Viksit

I think you're thinking of this:

On this page click Browse by category and you'll be there.

Other sites choose to present the categories as the default page, with links to "show all" as the option. I think that alternative is better, to ensure that newcomers are presented with the wonderful overview :-)

It might just serve to tease existing users to do some extra browsing on categories they normally dont, too.

+1 for this proposal

However, won't affect my (and possibly others') way to search for modules - using a firefox bookmark

http://drupal.org/search/node/%s+type%3Aproject_project

with the keyword "dp", so searching for projects on Drupal.org is simply typing

dp search words

in your address bar.

Displaying modules by category first would indeed be much more friendly to new users.
