In the description for the Project Type content type description it says " By default, the system handles Series and Special. " But those nodes are not installed by default.

Thanks westis, I believe this content type is going to be removed entirely in the near future in favor of a taxonomy, but in the meantime I've changed the language on that content type to indicate that series and special need to be created manually: http://drupalcode.org/viewvc/drupal/contributions/modules/om_project/om_...
