I found this issue is about 4.6.x and I once had a similar(I think) problem in 4.7.x with MySQL database.
We have 73339 nodes, 346386 comments now.

So I posted what I did(not yet finished) for tracker module.

Is anoyone having a problem with same condition(large number of posts and many logged in users)?

Drupal.org works fine with the tracker for recent posts. Not sure how many nodes we're at on d.o atm. But it all seems to run fine.
Views offers a replacement for the tracker.module IIRC.
