can't switch on tinymce for comments *underneath* nodes

I don't know if anyone else is seeing this..

...but for some reason, when there's a page like this:

node/$nid

... on these pages the comments entry box underneath, [where it says Post New Comment] TinyMCE is *always shut off*. This is true, even when I set TinyMCE to show on *every* page under TinyMCE settings.

It's not a textarea specific thing, I don't think, since I can get tinymce to show up *fine* for for the comments box on pages like this:

comments/reply/*/*

--- it's just for comments *under nodes* that there's this bug.

Anyone have any ideas?
