I've downloaded this module and saw that it absolutely doesn't correspond with Drupal coding standarts (the most bad thing is that spaces and tabs are mixing in indentations). It hurts my eyes strongly. Also, this module is hard-coded to work with core profile pictures.

But I think that if maintainers and coders of this module are responsive we can create some communication API to connect our modules.
Also you can look to the ImageCrop module (unfortunately, it's only available for 5.x). It connects to ImageCache, which perfectly works with Profile Pictures.

I think that I will create "crutch" patch in one-two days. It will not be commited, but there will be link on profile pictures project's page
