Hey, what about a dev release with the latest code from github? I'd like to start working on providing a dev release fior Rules-web - which builds upon services. Also that way people are more aware of the code & the current dev status.

Note that that release is pretty behind the changes going on in 6.3. My plan has been to get 6.3 stable then port it to 7. Unfortunately, I've been pulled out of this due to some real life issues since Drupalcon.

Are there any serious API changes?

Yes it is a top-down rewrite

I meant in comparison to 7.x, but it doesn't look like that. Anyway, please update the dev snapshot of services 7.x-3.x occasionally with the code from github such that people can find it via d.o.

Are there any plans to start/continue porting to D7?

It looks like the services-7.x-1.x-dev hasn't been updated since July 11th.

Also Ctools has an alpha1 release now so it should be possible to start porting. http://drupal.org/node/938720

Kyle Browning has agreed to take over the port of Services for Drupal 7, and he has already made excellent progress. He will be pulling his work here in the next few days.

back in August I was working on the D7 port of services module based on the github code. I made many changes but unfortunately had no time to finish.
If you would like to check it out or need some ideas for improvements, here are the files:
