unload/not load empty cck text fields

i have three text file fields in my cck node which have a grey background.

if one of the file fields is empty, the field is still loaded and there is a tiny grey square visible. how can i get the system to not load the empty file fields into the page. i am not a php coder so i cannot produce the code myself. i think it should be possible to add a bit of code to the contemplate template so that the fields are only loaded if they contain text.

any suggestions would be very welcome. THX!
