Comment #1
mikey_p commentedErr link fail....
This page that is......
Comment #2
mikey_p commentedLooking at this I don't know if we could maybe reuse the existing module categories? Apparently there are about 100 installation profiles in contrib right now.
Comment #3
hunmonk commentedaccording to my calculations, we have 100 installation profiles in contrib. i don't think that's enough to warrant categories. there's 95 translations, and right now we're just picking some and hardlinking them on the D & E page. i think that would be fine for installation profiles until we have metrics in place that will allow us to provide some kind of programmatic ordering.
Comment #4
drummThose aren't categories. For example, wiki is an install profile - http://drupal.org/project/drupalwiki. We should pick specific profiles that are well-maintained and showcase what install profiles can do.
Comment #5
hunmonk commentedwe've already got #861082: Non-Solr download and extend blocks for this work. i think we can close this issue.
Comment #6
drummThis is *not* categories. 4 specifics need to be chosen.

Comment #8
hunmonk commented@drumm: we did pick specific ones. as far as i can tell this work is done, and has been committed and pushed to redesign.drupal.org.
Comment #9
boris mann commentedSuggestions:
* Drupal Wiki http://drupal.org/project/drupal_wiki -- was actually the first install profile ever, and actually looks to be recently maintained
* phpEdu looks to be actively using the packaging system http://drupal.org/project/phpedu_profile but is old (Feb 2010)
* OpenMedia http://drupal.org/project/openmedia
* DaNGO http://drupal.org/project/dango
Currently, because packaging still has issues, lots of people (eg. Tattler, Open Publish, Open Atrium, etc.) either don't fully utilize / update d.o. and/or actively promote offsite download links.
Another issue is that there are very limited D7 install profiles.
I am setting this to postponed. I will contact some of the offsite maintained install profiles and the people on the list above and see what roadmap / on d.o. maintenance plans are, and let them know that there will be highlighted links
Comment #10
hunmonk commented@Boris Mann: note that these highlighted links will most likely *not* be hand-picked forever. i'm assuming once we get a way to provide that list via a reasonable metric, we'll switch to using that approach.
Comment #11
boris mann commented@hunmonk: Totally understand, but we're at chicken and egg, which is exactly why I think the carrot of some hand picked marketing will motivate people to put some work into this. The postponed state is "ignore this until I write about this, reach out to some people, and see who will commit to quality".
Comment #12
lisarex commentedI'm handpicking some install profiles to hardcode into drupalorg-start.tpl.php as well. See #866574: Content for Get Started. I don't necessarily think they need to be the same....
Comment #13
tvn commentedThat column is called "Distributions" now and has various links, similar to Themes column. Closing this one.
