Fame, riches, and recognition came showering down upon George Hotelling this week for his work on the CitizenSpeak module as he was awarded the first prize in the inaugural Antonio Pizzigati Prize for Software in the Public Interest. The prize, sponsored by the Tides Foundation, aims to:

honor individuals who, in the spirit of open source computing, fashion outstanding applications that help nonprofits become more effective in their ongoing efforts for social change.

George writes more about the module and the prize on his blog.

Congratulations to the developer and to Drupal!

Does this module have some fancy mechanism for preventing spam?

I have used the CitizenSpeak module and liked it quite a bit (in fact we, Koumbit, submitted some patches for it) unfortunately it never got ported to 4.7. :-( I can only hope that this cash will help encourage this task to be undertaken.

In any case, it sure is nice to see the Drupal community and its membres benefiting from the overall success and visibility of the Drupal project as a whole.

The reason there isn't an official 4.7 branch yet is that http://citizenspeak.org/ is still running 4.6. We're going to be upgrading it soon (just in time to be outdated by 5.0?) and then we'll commit a 4.7 branch.

In fact, that upgrade is more or less a direct result of the award, so you should see the effects of the award Real Soon Now.

but it can be corrected, there will be future DrupalCons, I think many people will want to see ya to congratulate.

Please keep up the great Job!

I'm looking forward to being able to use the CitizenSpeak 4.7 version when it comes out. Any estimate on when that might be?

Thank you.
