ok i dropped the DB and added it again, now i have mysite.com/dropal working and my first post is showing, but when i close the window and visit the blog site home page it shows that i am not authorised to view it? no signin box just error.

before i closed the window it worked and i was able to look at the post i done just 'my first post' and typed hello in the text box for the message.

that all went well but close the IE window and open it again to view the mysite.com/drupal homepage does nothing but show this error.

what am i doing wrong?

OK one thing at a time... Did you try the cleanURL test and login described in your other thread - http://drupal.org/node/86202

By the way, it will be much easier for people to help you if you start a new thread if you link back so they know what has already been tried and the results that happened. Better yet, keep it all in the same thread - every time a new commnt is added you are bumped back to the top of the 'Recent Posts' list so there is really no need for a seperate thread here...

Dropping the database was OK, it gives us a cleanslate to work with. I also see now that you are running drupal in a sub-directory - that is significant.

the clean URL bit I described before would need to take that into account.

http:/ /mysite.com/drupal/?q=user to login might work. Post bacl and let us know if that works. Also what Sever OS, php version, and database version so we can better help you.

ok now i have got the idea how it works...

www.mysite.com/drupal shows the last post.

www.mysite.com/drupal/?q=user/1/edit i can edit user 1 any details they have.
www.mysite.com/drupal/?q=user/2/edit i can edit user 2 any details they have.

in both instances i have not logged in and i am able to edit any users details?!

www.mysite.com/drupal/?q=admin/settings

also i am able to edit admin settings after opening a new IE window when all others first closed to ensure that i am first logged out ? (i do not think this logs me out does it?)

why is this that can do all this?

Tresler’s picture

Ok so you actually are logged in as user/1 - which is admin, you can do anything, including edit any users attributes. You can verify what I'm saying by clicking the my account link and see who's profile it takes you to - should be /user/1. To log out you must actively hit the logout link, or navigate to htp:/ /mysite.com/drupal/?q=logout

Closing the browser window does not delete cookies unless you've set it up to do so (which is a good thing to do by the way). You can also clear the cookies frm your browser manually to have the same affect. I'd also recommend clearing your browser history - so IE doesn't cache a page and you won't be able to see any changes that you hae made.

i now have a menu at the top of the page

i changed primary link to nav..

jasonpc’s picture

but how do visitor sign up if they can not see this menu, it does not show when i logout so they can not signup at all

Tresler’s picture

Quite honestly, you're confusing me a little. How did you get to this page - which is accessible through the Navigation men at Admin-->menus if you cannot see the Navigation menu as you claimed above...

Did you just know the path and enter it manually?
Isn't that a logout button enabled at the bottom?
Is the Navigation block turned on in Blocks?
Does logout not show up in the Navigation menu?

If you can get to this, can you confirm that the "login Block" is enabled and that users have permission to use it?

It looks like all your pieces are here. You are logged in as user 1.

You keep claiming an access denied page but we need more details to help you... what is the exact URL of the access denied page? Have you managed to enable clean URL's?

I have found that in the BLOCKS section i can add menus.

at last i got there. i can now access menus when i am logged in and have set them to the left panel, and added everything really in that page but the syndicate section.

but still there is no menu when i log out.

when logged out i now have the login box show in the content window of www.mysite.com/drupal

but no menu link except 'edit primary links'

i wish to have links to the Terms and Condition shown here so they can view them before signing up.

where do i do this please

thanks

A lot of the things you seem to be asking about are in the general handbook. Now that you have successfully installed drupal (congratulations!) you might review this section...

http://drupal.org/node/6261

It tells you how to configure your site - including how to get menus to show up where you want them. As well as how to create content - such as terms and conditions pages.

After reading that, if you have more questions, feel free t start a new forum post - as you seem to have solved the problem that this one focused on.

Good Luck!

Similar thing happened to me after an install. Actually, I tried to add a second ID from the start up dialogue after creating user/1... why? I don't know... Just did. Anyway, it hosed thing up a little and I cleared it by logging off... deleting my cookies... and logged back in without a problem.

Hope this helps.
