Just wondering when people think drupal 7 will be a better option to use than drupal 6. Drupal 7 core might be great and all on launch but with so many modules going to be missing it will not really be an option ahead of drupal 6 for anything more than simple sites. So when do you think drupal 7 will pass drupal 6 as the preferred version, a year? Two years? More?

Like you said, a lot of it depends on modules. So when the contributed modules your site needs are ported and working in D7, then it'll be ready for you. Check the issue queues to see if they're being worked on for D7.

Due to the #D7CX initiative, where the module maintainers can opt to "pledge that this module will have a full Drupal 7 release on the day that Drupal 7 is released" it should be viable for most sites shortly after release. It's too early to say if it will turn out as planned or not (as it's the first time they've done this), but looks promising. Here's the listing of modules that have committed to #D7CX: http://drupal.org/project/modules?solrsort=sort_title%20asc&text=d7cx&di...

It certainly won't be years, or in any way as long as D5 to D6 was (which was delayed mostly because both CCK and Views were significantly overhauled, which is not the case now).

I am an absolute Newbie with Drupal and have next to no understanding of Code.

I have set up 6.17 and D7.Alpha.

After reviewing several options I can say I really like drupal and it seems very worth wild to learn. In addtion, I can say I think D7 is going to be a huge improvement from a user point of view and hopefully more seemless with some of the more common modules.

One of the most confusing aspects of this site is just learning your way around this one. There are so many modules, many that are depreciated and it is too easy to run in circles and get lost in all the documentation.

Nonetheless, I for one am looking foward to seeing D7 rolled out because on the outside looking in it looks to be a fantasty job.

Many thanks to all the contributors of Drupal.
