I've been meaning to write a nice thorough case study for our newly re-launched X PRIZE site at http://progressiveautoxprize.org but just haven't had the bandwith to do so. Even though, I still wanted to provide some details as I feel it is a great showcase for a Drupal site :)

The site has quite a bit of unique functionality. The home page provides a centerpiece by utilizing the Frontpage Slideshow (http://www.frontpageslideshow.net/) by way of a module (http://drupal.org/project/fpss) which after lots of research I have found to be a truly beautiful and very flexible tool. It comes with several built in templates and you can easily create your own CSS to customize it even further.

You can find another interesting feature by mousing over the "Teams" navigation to see a drop-down featuring the vehicles in our competition and then mouse-over those vehicles for some additional popout windows that lead you to the team pages. You should also take a look at the advanced search for some other neat filters. If you visit a team page you will find the ability to navigate multiple vehicles and team members without leaving the page, along with some great embedded widgets with archived vehicle telemetry data from the competition as well as a nice interface that aggregates the social media content for each time from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, as well as blog posts by way of RSS feeds. All of this is rendered after simple addition of the profile id's for each service in a teams content type utilizing CCK.

We also are using the quicktabs module (http://drupal.org/project/quicktabs) module both on the home page for the competition leaders as well as on the "Standing" page. We've also created several custom modules one that utilizes the Voting API for our Fan Favorites voting section. Hopefully I can write a more thorough post after the competition wraps up but in the meantime I wanted to post some details about the site as we wrap up our competition tomorrow.

If you get a chance I urge you to visit our "Live" page tomorrow at 10am EDT to view the embedded live uStream video feed as well as links to the live telemetry data we have for each vehicle.

You can get a tour of the site from a video we recorded on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xb6VQ86fGdI

You can also learn more about the live telemetry functionality we built for the competition (Note: Done in Java and running on Google App engine) on the Google Maps deveoper blog here: http://googlegeodevelopers.blogspot.com/2010/07/google-maps-api-for-flas... & a video tour from developer Kevin MacDonald here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N4MKIjZYOU

I'll hopefully do a more in-depth review later. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.
