The linodef filters have quite a few extra possibilities that Node Embed doesn't have (at least not yet). Could it be an idea to allow the usage of linodef filters in addition?

The list of Tag Options for linodef can give some ideas of what might be possible to add to the browser, especially in conjunction with Custom Formatters

(An experienced user would just reformat the Node Embed filter tag to a linodef filtertag in the blink of an eye.)
