I have installed this module on 2 different systems (WAMP and Mac OS X with built in apache/php). In both cases the very first menu, the one with the drupal icon has no menu popping out of it, and clicking on it goes straight to the site's base url.

In other installations I have seen, eg: http://www.unleashedmind.com/drupal/admin_menu/ There is a menu that pops out with some very useful functions, such as Run Cron and Flush All Caches.

How do I get those functions to appear? (In both cases I'm logged in as admin super-user and have no problems with other administrative tasks...)

That's odd, can't think of a case where the rest of the menu works normally, but only the icon menu not.

Do you have any other menu related modules installed?

You can use the 6.x-1.x-dev version of admin_menu.
