Existing Site Details:
I have an existing site that is running Drupal 6.x.
The "public" facing side is primarily "brochure-ware" - nothing very snazzy.
The "private" side, is more of an "extranet database."
Project Description:
I have a list of functionality that needs to be added and I am in need of services now.
I developed the existing site myself and have about 1yr of Drupal Development.
I have been programming for 20+ years and if I had the time, I would do all the development personally, but my company is growing and there just isn't time for me to program and grow my business.
Project Budget:
$10,000 - $30,000.
Project Length:
I anticipate the project should last 3-6 months with the majority of the work taking place in the first 2 months.
While I could likely handle long-term maintenance, if the individual selected wants that task, and the price is reasonable, I will likley have them handle it so I can focus on business growth.
Synopsis:
Following is a synopsis of what it is I am looking for in a Drupal Programmer:
1) Experienced. They must know Drupal already. Preferably they should know it better than me. I have been programming in Drupal about 1 year. My PHP skills are moderate (I still have to look things up from time to time because my background is .NET)
2) Creative. They must be creative. Otherwise, they will drive me nuts.
3) Opinionated. I want them to have an opinion. If they have no convictions or passions, what is the point? I want them to have a position, fight for it, and try to convince me they are right. I still might not agree, in which case once I make a decision, I want them to apply themselves 100% in the direction I have chosen (not tray to sabotage my position to prove theirs was the right one…)
4) Skill-set Aware. They must know what they know and what they don’t know. This comes with experience, but they shouldn’t tell me they can walk to the moon when they can’t. Alternatively, I don’t want someone who always says “that can’t be done.” They need to be a moderate risk taker, just not a sky-diver or a base-jumper.
5) Passionate. See #3 above. They must like programming, like doing new things. Necessity is the mother of invention. We will “invent” here.
6) Honest. They must be willing to tell me the truth even when I don’t like it. I play with my cards face up and they should too. They need to tell me when I’m making a mistake (see #3 above) and then argue their case, but with respect, honesty and integrity.
Programmer Type:
My preference is to hire a freelance Drupal Programmer; not a Drupal company. I ran my own IT consulting/sw development company so I know all the advantages a company provides, I also know their disadvantages. This doesn't mean I will ignore applications from companies, I just want you to know my present position. If you want to change my mind: convince me.
Location:
My company is located in Salem, Oregon. If you are semi-local, that is a plus, but I ran a project 2 years ago with a programmer in NY and one in SC so locale is not an issue.
If you are interested, send me a contact message with your contact information and an example of your work.
I will likely contact you today or this weekend.
I have needs now, so please don't contact me so you can fill your September/October schedule.
Thank you.
