is there the possibility to test the module without any GSA account? To evaluate, if GSA makes sense and if/how the module can be integrated into our site, any testing environment (eg demo-account) would help very much.

Or is it really required to get an account first, to pay some tausend euros for it and afterwards to realize, that the whole search integration does not fit into our site concept?!

Or is there an other possibily to get the GSA search working on our drupal test site?

You may be confusing this with something else? You don't purchase an "account". The Google Search Appliance (GSA) and its little brother the Google Mini are physical hardware devices that you purchase and connect to your network.

This module interfaces with those machines; it is of no use to you if you do not have access to one.

Right, but we are in the situatin to evalute, if it makes sense to use GSA for our drupal side. The alternative is to invest more time in other search modules or patch them for our needs. To be able to see, if your GSA modules are flexible enought, we need any demostration to test this. Of course we know, what GSA can. But a GSA account makes no sense for us, if the drupal implementation is too inflexible or too buggy. At the moment, there is no way to test this point.

I think you're out of luck, then. Google used to provide a virtual GSA for testing purposes but, frustratingly, they discontinued it.

It might still be possible to obtain an old version of that, but if it is available, I've no idea where. (If anyone knows, please say so!)
