The new About page contains a lot more information than the current one does:

http://redesign.drupal.org/about
(httpauth is drupal:drupal or check out the prototype: https://infrastructure.drupal.org/drupal.org-style-guide/prototype/about...)

* Not all of the H3 headings under Drupal Features have a natural place to link to (for example, "Web-based administration" and "Searching"
* The content of the potential body links live in various places/levels in the Handbook/site building/about content
* Much of the About page content needs updating anyway (the "Web-based administration" feature links to a screenshot of Drupal 4.3: http://drupal.org/node/3930

What I'd really like to avoid is someone clicking a link on the new About page and ending up completely lost.

##Option 1: Update the existing About section

Do we:
A) Re-organize/flesh out the Features section around this? http://drupal.org/features
B) Move Features up a level in the About pages (and rename 'Features, mission, and principles' to 'Mission and principles' or something like that)
C) Write additional About content to fit into the prototype H3 headings and copy? (with links to the Handbook for detailed information)
D) All of the above
E) Strip out the H3 links
F) Other

##Option 2: Point all links to the handbook
Pro: This information is maintained anyway
Con: It may be too detailed,
Con: The best content may be in a different section of the handbook to the previous section, making it more difficult for people to get an overview of Drupal without being completely overwhelmed
Con: Docs content is technical, whereas we need something with a nice, easy marketing-ish tone

What do folks think?

tagging drupal.org redesign content

I'm basically asking people to help me create a new section in the About book content. I can create the nodes, if people can contribute text.

I am tagging this 'drupal.org redesign sprint 2'. This sprint ends Thursday, Aug 19th.

See also a bigger issue, but lower priority #841170: Reorganize & Streamline About Section.

Option 1 is certainly more work, but I think it's the right solution. The "about" page isn't really a rehash of the handbook so much as it is a way to introduce people to what Drupal is and what it does at a relatively high level. It's more work to actually create that content, but I think it's the way to go.

Use lots of screenshots if you can.

OK, per discussions with Drumm and a few others, we are going to

a) create separate issues for each section of Drupal Features; volunteers can assign themselves

b) collate / write content for each section

c) ideally, have a single editor involved to unify the voice of each section
